The Whirlwind

A whirlwind came along the wind
And raced a slow motion scene
Of dust and toil with senseless power
The blink before serene

It came upon an Autumn day
When sun had seemed to set
To a place where wind had gust before
But rage like this not met

So unexpected the advance
And brutal its path of venture
That all there stood and cowered
A dying prayer quick mentioned

As raw and real it whipped a course
No point to hope against it
But rather seek the eye and tighten
Toward a brave adventure

Came crashing down – around – aloud
Came beating scrubbing bare
And up when folk in puffs of smoke
And up went lives uncensored….

But when the dust had settled
When sunlight broke the clouds
A new plain was revealed
Before the gasping crowd

For though old lands lay torn and changed -
A pretty history cleared
The scene unfolded in their eyes
Was beauty through their tears

And it was clear from that day forth
That new life would abound
Among the sapling pastures
And in the fresh turned ground

And greater would their land produce
The joy now filled their eyes
So thankful were they for the day
The whirlwind shaped their lives
Shaker

The art of people left last year
With jobs, stability and good cheer
I stand amidst a corporate snake
Who’s pointing finger makes me shake
Shake with anger, shake with fear
The cynic finger point my dear
Was never so useful to cover arses
That when recession hit middle classes

Clinging on to power and position
While sacrificing little ones
They were the Bright
The waxed on lyrical
Now they stand reflecting
The sore political

Oh yes its easy to point and frown
And hand down judgement from the crown
You who never knew the rule
Now use it as your scaping tool
In times of pressure some look in
And some look out and all about
And sickening they deal their blows
To unfortunates who wait below

No lower character could there be
Than the one I face, the one I see
To forfeit truth and honest effort
To keep yourself at higher port
And thrust you will maybe for all time
I hope you get to where you strive
I hope it’s worth the immoral stance
The slying look, the blaming glance

Let me say this; when thinking’s run
With blessings counted and money done
Dear; when its time to meet your maker
It’s you who’ll be the greater shaker
